Race Day Morning

The sun is rising over the track as we wait for the cars to line up, and the roar of the engines after the most famous words in racing, “Gentlemen… start your engines!!” It’s always nice to arrive at the track early on race day. It’s like the calm before the storm.

Calm Before the Storm

Very few people are on site, a handful of fans have gathered, and track personnel are taking their position. The media room is a buzz of activity as reporters, photographers and others prepare for a busy afternoon. The sights and sounds are very different early morning at the track. But soon, that will all change.

I liken this to the Selah moment found through the Psalms. A time to pause and reflect on the events of the day, and even the goodness of God. It looks like it will be a great day at the track. Soon drivers and crews will get active in the garage area. Before lunch I will wander through the garage area chatting with a few drivers and crew members.

But, I have to admit, the part of the day I look forward to comes just before the race. With cars staged and drivers getting into the place, it’s always an honor and privilege to pray with a few drivers before they strap into the machines, preparing to run to the finish.

Just a guy on a journey,
